What's been going on

I am acutely aware that it's been over a week since I last posted *tut tut*. Although you probably aren't aware of this, I do aim to post at least once per week. I like to keep things consistent. But for some reason, this past week has been a little full on. I feel as though I haven't accomplished a lot, but at the same time I've barely had a chance to sit back and take a deep breath. This of course means that I haven't had the time, or energy, to get into the kitchen or work on any new recipes to share with you all. Instead, I'm giving you a run down of things that have happened this week. Maybe it will shed some light on where my time has been spent. Maybe it won't. Perhaps it's just been one of those weeks.

The last few months I've been taking horse riding lessons at Nyroca stables. My mother in law has her own horse, Clayton, agisted there. I haven't built up enough courage to ride Clayton just yet, but I am enjoying the two horses I have been riding; Mickey - a gorgeous chestnut, and Flipper, a cheeky white pony. Riding is fast becoming one of my favourite ways to spend a weekend. I hope to get Clayton out of his paddock soon, groom him and take him for a big walk to ease him back into riding. Oh yes, it's been three years since he was ridden!

I finally got around to purchasing a new camera. I don't have a great track record with digital camera's, the last three I've had have either been misplaced, or broke in my handbag. Thankfully they were only cheapies. But with the blog taking more of a front seat these days, and my determination to continue writing for Weekend Notes, I thought it best to get myself a new camera. I ended up getting a mid-priced Nikon. It's still point and shoot - I'm no high end photographer! But it's got good zoom and pixel ration, and I'm happy with the quality of photos it takes.

*cough* good segue *cough*. The cough is real, I've had it for the last week. I'm not sick, I just have this annoying, chesty cough, which is so much worse in the morning's. But back to the segue: I started writing for Weekend Notes, after hearing about it from my fellow EDB3 committee member Tash. I have only submitted a few articles so far, but I'm enjoying it. There's a cheap thrill to be nominated for an 'editor's award' for an article, and it's easy dosh. Albeit, it's not the kind of money you'd quit your day job for, but it's nice to see the cents rise each time you log on. Please stop by my profile and take a look at my reviews. And if you have any requests for anywhere you'd like reviewed, or types of themes you'd like to see - do let me know!

I finally got around to starting a dedicated Apprentice Foodie facebook page. If you like my blog, please like my page. I'll be sure to add interesting foodie related stuff, pictures and the like to this page, as well as on Twitter.

I've also discovered a new (to me that is) eatery in Adelaide that I just love. OK, I know many of you Adelaidians will laugh when you read this, I can just imagine the taunts and sniggers; "Have you been living under a rock?", "What took you so long?", "Oh that place is old news". I am so ashamed to say that I have only just visited Vego n Lovin It for the first time this week. A popular, trendy little place, up an extremely narrow stair case on Rundle Street. You can't blink as you're walking past because you're likely to miss the sign (like I did), and it's rather embarrassing standing on the street with your iPhone GPS blinking away, and a look on your face that says, 'where the hell is it, it's supposed to be here'. The burgers at this place are nothing short of amazing, and so much variety. I never had so much trouble deciding what to eat before! My friend Nat and I ended up splitting a spicy mushroom burger and believe me, half a burger is plenty. I walked away full and very satisfied. I will definitely be going back and hope to review it properly some time soon (not that there's a shortage of them already floating around the interwebs).

My parents arrived home this week from a five week trip in Europe. I picked the jet lagged pair up from Adelaide Airport on Wednesday morning. I'm so glad to have them home. Psst, how good is the new car park at the airport!

Lastly, I managed to burn the bottom of not one, not two, but three, yes THREE of my pots this week. Time for a new set, perhaps of the non-stick variety. Any suggestions or favourite brands you can recommend to me guys?

So that's about all for now.
Until next time,
Kirsty x

  1. You've been so busy, Kirsty! Enjoy playing with your new camera

I promised my daughter a horse riding lesson for her birthday - would the place you've mentioned be suitable?

    1. Absolutely Christina - it's a great place and the instructor is really good with beginners and the more experienced riders. They're also good at matching riders with horses judged on their personality, so your daughter will be in great hands!

  2. Ponies are the best buddies. I'd bring mine inside for tea if he could fit. See you on Sunday for some food based relaxation!
